RESIDENTS are being asked to mark Wallyford Children’s Gala from their own homes during the Covid-19 crisis.

The annual event, which was due to be held next Saturday (June 6), has been cancelled due to the pandemic.

But the gala team is urging people to put up bunting outside their houses next week and is hoping the children will make pictures of crowns for their windows.

Jacqueline Stewart, secretary of the gala group, said the idea came from Pastor Andrew Agnew of Wallyford Livingroom Church.

She added: “We thought it would maybe lift the children’s spirits. We don’t want our gala court to feel like gala day is forgotten about. It usually attracts a huge crowd.”

She explained that it was hoped to hold the gala in 2021 which would feature this year’s gala court.

Alister Hadden, chairman of Wallyford Community Council, said: “Wallyford Gala has been running as a yearly event on the first Saturday in June for many decades and it regrettable, as with many other events, that it had to cancelled this year due to the present circumstances.

“It would be lovely to still see it given recognition in some way, such as what is being proposed by the gala team, so that it does not slip past without us still having the feeling of the gala taking place.”

Looking forward to their big day in 2021 are: gala queen, Grace Harnanan; gala king, Jamie Lawson; chief lady, Tayla Patton; ladies-in-waiting, Kiera Harnanan, Sophie Glen and Isla Stewart; herald, Freddy Markham; train bearers, Nathan McGhie and Mia Halliday; crown bearers, Alex Hill and Corynn Laidlaw; wreath bearer, Lacy Doman; flower girls, Demi Smith, Reagan Cochrane, Lily-May Clark, Olivia Boyne, Hannah McDonald, Ronnie McGhie, Lily Gibson, Olivia Fleming; Lea Anderson and Lilly Harnanan; page boys, Darren Crawford, Murray Fisher, Joshua Garrity, Rudi Stewart, Travis Rogan, Matthew Brown, Ayden Anderson, Jack Young, Kayden Clelland and Jacob Wilkie.
