BURGER kings have been crowned at a national ceremony, with two county butchers striking gold.

Brilliant burgers and scrumptious sausages were on the menu at the Scottish Craft Butcher Awards.

Having been subjected to a right good grilling by the judges, Anderson’s Quality Butchers, North Berwick, and Linton Butchers, in East Linton, were among the prizewinners.

The North Berwick butcher took gold awards for its flaming top mark cheeseburger, venison burger and Highland banger, and silver awards for its steak burger, top mark cheeseburger, Toulouse sausage, Italian sausage, Dubliner sausage and chicken firecracker sausage.

Meanwhile, Linton Butchers was also among the prizes, with a gold award for its chilli and mango sausage, and silver awards for its gourmet beef burger, turkey Thai burger, short rib and gammon burger, Mediterranean steak burger, pork and cider sausage, pork, leek and pancetta sausage, lamb curry sausage and mustard and chive sausage.

The event was held by Scottish Craft Butchers and the overall winners in each beef burger, speciality burger and speciality sausage category will receive a diamond award.

This means that all the gold award winners are still in contention for the top prize, with winners announced in July.

Scott Jarron, president of the Scottish Craft Butchers, added: “These evaluations always reveal really appealing products that craft butchers make and sell.

“The superior quality of barbecues and grill products is widely acknowledged by customers and the innovative range comes as a response to consumers becoming more adventurous with their tastes; and they are always keen to support local businesses who make their own unique quality products.”
