A HISTORIC water wheel which has featured in Outlander is turning again for the first time in six weeks.

The team at the National Trust for Scotland have been working hard during lockdown to ensure some of the country’s most precious places and spaces are cared for and preserved, including Preston Mill, at East Linton.

One of the Lothians’ last working grain mills, Preston Mill featured in some of hit TV show Outlander’s most memorable scenes.

Preston Mill was rescued last year thanks to generous donations from National Trust for Scotland members and the general public, which allowed the water wheel to be repaired.

John Baxter, visitor services manager for the Lothians, said: “Under normal circumstances the wheel is operational around five days a week.

“It’s essential, even under lockdown, we keep it turning as often as we can to ensure the mechanism doesn’t seize up.

“Preston Mill is an important part of East Linton’s story and it’s our job at the National Trust for Scotland to ensure it keeps turning for generations to come.”
