THOUSANDS of face masks have been donated to one of the country’s largest care providers.

CrossReach, which provides social care services on behalf of the Church of Scotland, has received 3,000 face masks from EDF Energy, operators of Torness Power Station.

The masks will be used to ensure that staff and residents are protected during the Covid-19 outbreak.

Torness Power Station, near Dunbar, along with its sister station in North Ayrshire and EDF’s office in East Kilbride, have each given 1,000 masks.

CrossReach previously had a facility on Dunbar’s Bayswell Road, before it moved to Aldhammer House, Prestonpans.

Elspeth McPheat, one of CrossReach’s care home managers, said: “It is amazing how kind and thoughtful people are being.

“It means so much to know that, as social care workers, you are loved and cared for by others when you are loving and caring for those in your care.”

Rob Guyler, EDF’s chief financial officer, said: “We want to be able to do our bit to support people in the community during these difficult times so we are happy to make this donation.”
