SHOP owners are being urged to be on the lookout for fake £50 notes after incidents in Port Seton and Tranent.
The issue was highlighted by police on social media who urged the public and particularly shop owners to be vigilant to the counterfeit money.
A spokesman for Police Scotland said: “This is after two incidents where fake £50 notes were used to make purchases in shops across East Lothian.
“On Wednesday May 6, in one incident in Port Seton, a man in his 50s and a female in her 30s, have both been identified as suspects.
“A similar incident was reported by a shop in Tranent.
“If anyone has any information regarding these incidents or sees anything suspicious, please contact Police on 101 quoting incident number 1119 of May 7.”
