A JOHNSTONE man had a lucky escape when two thugs posing as delivery men tried to stab him through his letterbox.

The 29-year-old opened the door of his George Street flat at around 7.25pm on Thursday and was confronted by the pair, who claimed to have a parcel for him.

Unsure of what was going on, the victim slammed the door shut on the thugs who then tried to stab him through the letterbox with a bladed weapon.

They narrowly missed the man, who was unhurt during the incident but has been left badly shaken.

The pair are described as being white men.

The first suspect was around 6ft tall, of slim build, and was wearing a grey hoodie.

The second is said to have been closer to 5ft 6ins tall and wearing a red skin cap.

An investigation is now underway into the shocking incident and police have appealed for anyone with information to come forward.

Call police on 101.
