MORE than £3,000 worth of sweets were nabbed by a crook as cops probe a series of car thefts in Renfrewshire.

The confectionery was being stored inside a white Ford Transit van in Paisley Road, Renfrew, when it was stolen during Thursday night.

The alarm was raised by its owner at around 7.30am on Friday, who had parked it outside his home at 11.30pm the previous day.

In a separate incident in the town that same day, a white Citroen Picasso was also pinched from a driveway in Whimbrel Wynd on Friday, only to be found miles away in Paisley the next morning.

Cops say the motor was found abandoned in Underwood Lane at around 6am on Saturday by a passerby, who spotted a man running away from the scene.

Meanwhile, police are also probing a failed theft attempt at a Howwood farm.

They say a farmer discovered the door to his Land Rover Defender had been tampered with at some point during the night between Thursday and Friday at Elliston Farm, in Beith Road.

Anyone with information on any of the three incidents is asked to call police on 101.
