HEARTLESS thieves have stolen a necklace from a funeral parlour which contained the ashes of the owner's mother.

Entry was forced to C&A Funeral Services on Links Road in Prestonpans between noon on Wednesday and 1pm the following day.

The thieves stole a necklace belonging to owner Christine Simmonte which contained her mother's ashes.

A Dell laptop was also stolen.

The owner slammed the "lowlife scum" on social media, adding: "I hope you can sleep at night knowing that you have stolen jewellery that has my deceased mum's ashes in."

Detective Constable Steven Stewart, of Dalkeith CID, said: "Behaviour of this kind is deplorable and we are carrying out extensive enquiries to identify those responsible.

"I would urge anyone in the community who may have seen any suspicious activity around the area to let us know as soon as possible.

"Any information can be passed to police on 101, quoting incident 1387 of March 26, or call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111."
