SPORTS centre and sports facilities run by enjoyleisure in East Lothian will close for an indefinite period from 10pm today (Friday) due to the coronavirus outbreak.

In a statement yesterday evening (Thursday), Bill Axon, chief executive of enjoyleisure, said: "To slow the spread of Covid-19, the general public are being advised to stay at home as much as possible and avoid unnecessary social contact.

"The health and safety of our visitors and staff is our number one priority.

"We have taken the extremely difficult decision to close our facilities to the public temporarily and will continually monitor the advice from government so that we are in a good position to re-open as quickly as possible when appropriate.

"We would like to take this opportunity to thank our customers for their continued loyalty and support, and give special mention to our team of incredible colleagues and their continued dedication and commitment to the delivery of enjoyleisure services.”

From close of business on Friday, enjoyleisure will close its sports centres and swimming pools, pitches and pavilions, Meadowmill Athletics Arena and its climbing wall at Tranent.

Enjoyleisure-managed golf courses Musselburgh Old Links and Winterfield, Dunbar, will remain open to the public for now.

All fitness and swimming lesson membership customers will have their monthly direct debit payments reduced to £1 per month to cover bank and administration costs.

While all children’s and adults' coached activity programmes - including gymnastics, trampolining, climbing, and swimming lessons - will cease tomorrow.

All upcoming events, hosted by enjoyleisure or other external organisations at enjoyleisure facilities, have been cancelled or postponed.
