A MUSSELBURGH motorist who clocked more than 100mph on the A1 has been banned from driving.

Mark Sutherland, of Pinkie Avenue, was caught travelling at excessive speeds on the A1 near to Wallyford last May.

Sutherland drove his vehicle at 90mph while in a 50mph zone and 110mph in a 70mph zone.

The 28-year-old was said to be driving at the excessive speeds on the eastbound (southbound) carriageway, while the road was busy with traffic.

Sutherland admitted the dangerous driving offence when he appeared at Edinburgh Sheriff Court last Friday.

Sheriff Roderick Flinn ordered Sutherland to pay a £400 fine and banned him from the road for 18 months.

Sutherland pleaded guilty to driving a vehicle dangerously at excessive speeds when the road was busy with traffic on the A1 between Queen Margaret University and Wallyford on May 5 last year.
