A £1,000 REWARD has been offered for the safe return of a cat who was rescued from Dubai.

Four-year-old Sweepy disappeared from his home on Dunbar’s Stanley Place on Saturday, February 15; a passionate appeal was posted on social media in a bid to find his whereabouts.

With no response, his owners Mike Lloyd and Jo McNamara have now offered a cash reward to see him brought home.

“This is so unlike Sweepy, who loves and needs human company,” Mike said.

“Although a big male cat, he is as loyal and affectionate as a dog.

“We are offering this large reward because he is one of our family and we love and miss him so much.

“He has no financial value.”

Found abandoned as a tiny kitten in a flowerbed in the Middle East city, Sweepy was reared by his rescuer, who named him because he was as dirty as a chimney sweep.

Later, he was flown thousands of miles to Scotland to his ‘forever’ home with Mike and Jo, where he has become a part of the family for the past three years.

The family are distraught and desperately worried he could be locked in somewhere hungry – or injured out in the bitter cold.

Both Mike and Jo were worried Sweepy might be locked in a building or have gone off with someone who tried to befriend him.

Jo, who worked as the manager at the Bleachingfield Centre in Dunbar, added: “Please check your garden shed and under bushes because Sweepy gets everywhere.

“He may even be shut in a house with the family on holiday.”

Posters have been put up on neighbouring streets, and local postal delivery workers have been urged to keep an eye out for Sweepy.
