A SIMPLE MINDS fan convention will be held in Glasgow next month.

The organisers claim it is the first time such an event has taken place in the city for 15 years.

It has been organised to coincide with Simple Mind's world tour which will see them play 40 years of hits at the Hydro on April 25.

Fronted by Jim Kerr, the band formed in Glasgow in the seventies before they propelled onto the world stage with hits Alive and Kicking, Belfast Child and the iconic Don't You (Forget About Me).

Fans of the Scottish rockers will soak up the nostalgia when the event takes place at St Luke's & The Winged Ox on Saturday, March 21 from 4 pm to 11 pm.

Organised by lifelong fans Gordon Machray and George Porter, the White Hot Day convention will raise money for CHAS.

Guests on the day include Simple Minded, Derek Forbes and The Dark, Bruce Findlay and Mick MacNeil.

Gordon, who runs Simple Minds fan pages online, said the event has received the band's blessing with singer Jim and Charlie Burchill donating a Fender Stratocaster guitar for auction.

The superfan, who is attending world tour gigs in Glasgow, Edinburgh, Aberdeen, London and even further afield in Italy, said: "The last time there was a big fan convention was 15 years ago in Glasgow and then 20 years ago in London.

"This is probably going to be the last fan convention."

He added: "The band has seen many personnel changes since 1977, so we wanted to feature debut album band members.

"It’s really exciting to bring Derek Forbes (voted Scotland’s greatest ever bassist) and keyboardist Mick MacNeil widely regarded as the sound of Simple Minds to perform and share our stage

"Some of the guests attending have not been in a room together for 20 years."

George, who is the lead singer with Simple Minded, added: “With such an amazing back catalogue to choose from we’ve created an all-day playlist, and live appearances from some of Europe’s key tribute Minds performers.

"We’re honoured that we’ll also have the original manager and Zoom label owner Bruce Findlay alongside Derek in a Q and A."
