Fans have voted in their thousands for their favourite Hydro live acts of the past year.

Rod Stewart, Still Game, Backstreet Boys, Hugh Jackman and WWE Live were among those honoured as crowd-favourites.

Over half a million votes were cast in the biggest awards yet for the venue, which featured categories such as Event of the Year, Best Group, Best Comedy and Best Live Entertainment.

Backstreet Boys scooped two awards for overall Event of the Year and Best Group, beating Take That, Westlife and Boyzone for the top prize.

After 50 years in the business, Rod Stewart managed to fend off newcomers such as Post Malone, Olly Murs and local star Gerry Cinnamon and fellow veteran Cher for Best Solo Artist.

Still Game's Final Farewell run managed to bag the Craiglang jokers the Best Comedy award.  Over 100,000 fans said a fond farewell to Jack and Victor last year after nine seasons and a critically acclaimed run of shows at the Hydro.

Capitalising on his Greatest Showman stardom, Hugh Jackman debuted his "The Man. The Music. The Show." tour in May last year and fans voted his solo renditions of hits from The Greatest Showman and Les Miserables the Best Live Entertainment act of 2019.

The Aussie actor-cum-singer was up against kids' favourite Disney on Ice, as well as Strictly Come Dancing and Country to Country.

Best Sporting Event winners WWE Live faced some tough competition from Premier League Darts and the World Boxing Super Series but came out on top for the second year running.

WWE Live will return to the Hydro on May 3 as part of its UK-wide spring Smackdown tour.

Wrestler and head of Talent, Live Events and Creative for WWE, Paul "Triple H" Levesque, said: "Thank you WWE Universe in Scotland for helping WWE Live win Best Sporting Event at the SSE Live Awards for the second year in a row! We are proud and privileged to be recognized once again by the people who matter most – our fans."

Colin Banks, Head of Sponsorship & Reward at SSE, said: "These awards are decided solely by the fans, so we are ecstatic to see how many of them got involved in the voting campaign across all genre of shows to back their favourite acts and crown our winners.

"From homegrown heroes like Still Game to international superstars like Hugh Jackman, there is a show for everyone at The SSE Hydro and our eclectic mix of winners this year shines a spotlight on that. Congratulations to our incredible winners, and their fans for getting them there!"

Fans voted across six categories to pick their favourite acts of 2019.
