BEACHGOERS had a lucky escape this morning when a parked car rolled off a sea wall and fell 20ft onto the sands below.

Thankfully, no-one was in the Vauxhall Zafira when it suffered suspected handbrake failure and plummeted onto Dunbar's East Beach from the town's Lamer Street at about 10.45am.

There were walkers on the beach but they were not nearby.

The Courier understands the car's owners were on a day trip to Dunbar from Edinburgh.

One passer-by said: "Luckily, no-one was in the car at the time - it was not the day out that the car owners had planned!"

A tow truck appeared later in the day to take the battered car - which had flipped onto its roof - off the beach.
