A SECTION of the City of Edinburgh Bypass between the Old Craighall and Sheriffhall roundabouts will be shut for roadworks for two nights next week.

Maintenance work will take place on the A720 eastbound carriageway from Wednesday until Friday next week (January 22 to 24), between 8pm and 6am each night.

To allow the work to take place, there will be a full closure of the A720 eastbound carriageway between Sheriffhall and Old Craighall. A signed diversion route will be in operation.

Eastbound traffic will be diverted at Sheriffhall Roundabout via the Millerhill exit onto the A6106.

At the following roundabout, traffic will take the third exit to Old Craighall, B6415 and will continue to join the A1.

From here, traffic will take the second exit at the mini roundabout towards Old Craighall Roundabout, where traffic will either be able to rejoin the A1 or A720 westbound to access the A68 junction.

Amey, which maintains the road, said that the work would benefit more than 22,500 vehicles which this section of the A720 each day by improving the condition of the carriageway and reducing the need for more extensive maintenance in the future.

Amey added that the work was weather dependent and could be cancelled or rescheduled if weather conditions are not favourable.

The work has been planned in consultation with Transport Scotland, Traffic Scotland, the emergency services, and East Lothian Council.
