A YOUNGSTER from Macmerry spent the run-up to Christmas fundraising to buy toys for those less fortunate than himself.
Max Dickson, nine, has been praised by his family and friends for raising cash to buy Christmas presents for the Cash for Kids’ Christmas toy appeal, Mission Christmas.
By selling ‘reindeer dust’ and ‘snowman soup’ to his nearest and dearest, the Macmerry Primary School pupil raised £106 and spent the money on toys at B&M Store, which he donated immediately to the cause by placing them in the appeal’s in-store collection trolley.
The youngster, of Brierbush Road, made soup from hot chocolate, marshmallows and candy canes, and the reindeer dust from a mixture of oats and other special ingredients.
Max’s grandmother, Linda Whitefield, of Lammerview, Tranent, told the Courier: “Last year he used his pocket money to buy presents.
“I think it’s brilliant that at nine years old he wants to do this.
“He was chuffed with what he raised, he had a target of £50.
“[Max] was watching Children in Need recently and he just realised how lucky he was and that inspired him to help other children. He just didn’t want anyone to go without.
“All his friends at school have been telling him that he did a good job and he’s been really happy. I think he will do it again next year.”
