TWO county residents have managed to travel 10 kilometres for charity. . . in their wheelchairs.

Megan Roland from Gifford and Joanne Rye from Ormiston both completed the 10k journey from Ormiston to Tranent and back with help from their support workers.

Through sponsorship they raised £821 for Ormiston’s Primrose Day Centre.

Megan, 29, and Joanne, 48, have support needs and have required the use of wheelchairs all their lives.

They duo had assistance on the trek from their support workers Catherine Mitchell and Jackie Hoy.

Joanne told the Courier: “It was exciting because Jackie, Megan and Cath did it with me and my niece and sister came along too.

“We did it for Alzheimer’s as my mum has it and I wanted to do it for the Primrose Day Centre as she goes there.

“It was a very successful and very fun sponsored walk.”

Megan and Joanne used to live together until Megan moved out to a house of her own.

They have been on holidays together, including one memorable trip to Blackpool.
