THE entirety of the A1 in East Lothian was closed in both directions to high-sided vehicles after three lorries overturned on Tuesday, with one hitting a police car.

A lorry was blown over near the Tyne Bridge, near East Linton, by strong winds, and collided with a police car in the process.

The section of the A1 between Abbotsview Junction at Haddington and Thistly Cross Roundabout in Dunbar was closed to all traffic as a result, only re-opening after 10pm, 12 hours later.

A police spokesperson said: "Around 10.15am on Tuesday, a lorry collided with a police vehicle on the A1 northbound, between Dunbar and Haddington.

"There are no reports of any serious injuries."

Meanwhile, the A1 was closed to high-sided vehicles in both directions between Old Craighall all the way to Berwick-upon-Tweed because of the high winds. A lengthy diversion was in place.

Earlier in the morning, two lorries were blown over between Skateraw and Innerwick at about 7.45am, with the A1 closed to all traffic in both directions between Torness and Innerwick until after 10pm.
