A MINUTE’S silence will be held ahead of Dunbar United’s game on Saturday to mark the passing of two men who served the club with distinction.

Whitehill Welfare visit New Countess Park on Saturday, with those present pausing to remember Malcolm Jones and George Foggo. Kick-off is 1pm.

Mr Jones, whose son Geoff manages the team, was club secretary; he passed away after taking unwell while watching the team play Crossgates Primrose a fortnight ago. Mr Foggo, who was 99, was a former president of Dunbar United.

A post on social media noted: “It is with sadness to announce that the club’s ex-president and lifelong member George Foggo has died aged 99. There will be a minute’s silence at Saturday’s game as a mark of respect to both him and our secretary Malcolm Jones. Our thoughts are with their families at this difficult time.”

George Robertson, chairman of Dunbar and East Linton Area Partnership, said of Mr Foggo’s death: “It is sad news, he was such an extraordinary man.”

Mr Foggo was a joiner who cleared mines in the Second World War.
