CONTROVERSIAL plans for a car park with up to 240 spaces on Haddington’s eastern edge have been scrapped, a councillor has told the Courier.

Proposals for a “transport hub” on Whittingehame Drive were revealed last week by East Lothian Council.

However, the plans, which came about after a series of closed-door meetings, attracted plenty of criticism from concerned residents.

This morning (Wednesday), Councillor Shamin Akhtar, who represents the Haddington and Lammermuir ward, told the Courier that the plans had been withdrawn.

She said: “Due to the concerns of local residents, the application has now been withdrawn.

“Alternative options will be looked at.”

East Lothian Council is yet to confirm if this is the case but it is understood that a message confirming the decision to withdraw the plans has been sent to community groups.
