EAST Lothian Police have warned that anyone causing anti-social behaviour tonight on Hallowe’en or on Bonfire Night will be “robustly dealt with”.

Emergency services are working closely together and with East Lothian Council to ensure that anti-social behaviour is tackled effectively.

The fire service, NHS and community wardens will be sharing resources to ensure the events are as enjoyable as possible.

Chief Inspector Neil Mitchell, local police commander for East Lothian, has set up ‘Operation Torsion’, which sees additional police resources deployed to deal with incidents.

Officers have been briefed to take robust action to tackle anyone causing problems.

Ch Insp Mitchell said: “At this time of year the emergency services see a huge spike in demand brought on by Hallowe’en and Bonfire Night.

“My priority is to ensure that everyone enjoys them safely.

“In order to do this, we work very closely with our partners, sharing all the resources and tools available to achieve this.

“This year, I have a dedicated operation. I have additional police resources deployed to deal with incidents and they have all been briefed to take robust action to tackle anyone causing us or partners problems.

“I warn those who think that it is acceptable to cause disorder or those who endanger others by their use of fireworks – police and partners will be using all means possible to catch you and will ensure you are robustly dealt with.”
