THE road between Ormiston and Tranent was closed for several hours earlier today (Wednesday) and buses diverted after an accident at a bridge.
The B6371 between Ormiston and Tranent was closed following a crash on Puddle Bridge this morning.
Commuters reported a collision on the bridge coming into Ormiston from Tranent.
Police and the ambulance service attended the scene.
Bus companies confirmed that services were affected, with diversions temporarily put in place – the road has now re-opened.
It is not yet known if anyone was injured.
Social media users reported that there had been black ice on the road early in the morning.
A spokeswoman for East Lothian Council said: "East Lothian Council's winter weather maintenance starts on November 1 – the overnight pre-gritting and gritting programme dependent on weather conditions.
"During the autumn, weather forecasts and conditions are closely monitored so that appropriate action can be taken if required.
"There was no forecast of below freezing conditions for Tuesday evening/Wednesday morning and no pre-gritting was carried out.
"Drivers are reminded that they must take heed of weather conditions and drive as appropriate."
