A HADDINGTON man has been jailed after admitting ordering food and drink at two Edinburgh restaurants and then trying to leave without paying.

Michael Brown ordered food and a drink at the Mussel Inn on Edinburgh’s Rose Street in September and attempted to leave without paying the bill.

Edinburgh Sheriff Court was told the total amount of the order came to £35.

The 40-year-old also attempted the same scam a few days later at the Uniview restaurant at the city’s Potterrow. On that occasion, he obtained food and drink to the value of £36.70 and again attempted to leave without paying the bill.

The court also heard that Brown, of Hardgate, had behaved in a threatening or abusive manner at an Edinburgh branch of Pizza Hut when he shouted, swore and acted aggressively toward staff and police officers.

Brown appeared from custody at the Capital’s sheriff court on Monday, where he pleaded guilty to the three offences.

Sheriff Alistair Noble heard the facts and sentenced Brown to a six-month jail sentence to account for all three offences. Brown admitted behaving in a threatening or abusive manner at Pizza Hut, North Bridge, Edinburgh, on August 25.

He also pleaded guilty to attempting to obtain food and drink from the Uniview restaurant, Potterrow, on September 4. And he also admitted a third offence of attempting to obtain food and drink from the Mussel Inn on September 29.
