THERE was major disruption on the railway line in East Lothian this morning due to a broken down train.

Because of the broken down train between Musselburgh and Edinburgh, the line towards Edinburgh is blocked.

ScotRail initially said they hoped the disruption to ease by 10.30am but later said problems would persist 11.45am.

The 9.43 Edinburgh to North Berwick train and the 10.27 train from North Berwick to Edinburgh were quickly cancelled and the 11.02 from Dunbar to Edinburgh was later cancelled as well.

A post on ScotRail's website this morning said: "Our 0803 Prestonpans to Edinburgh [train] has come to a stand between Musselburgh and Edinburgh.

"The driver has worked with our maintenance control to try and overcome the fault but unfortunately they have been unable to overcome the fault.

"The 0755 North Berwick to Edinburgh is being delayed at Musselburgh and will be used to assist the broken down train ahead into Edinburgh.

"The 0845 North Berwick to Edinburgh is being delayed at Longniddry."

ScotRail later posted an update to say that the 7.55 train had been able to assist the 8.03 to Edinburgh, allowing trains to run on the line once again.
