QUICK-THINKING staff from East Lothian Council have been praised after helping to prevent a fire in Haddington’s Neilson Park.
Firefighters were called out to the park at about 7.15am today (Wednesday) after reports of a blaze at the pavilion.
Two green bins had been set alight at the rear of the building.
Firefighters from Haddington were joined by colleagues from East Linton and used a high-pressure hose and a thermal imaging camera to tackle the blaze.
A spokeswoman for East Lothian Council said: “We will be assessing the damage to the outside of the building and reviewing nearby CCTV footage.
“This incident could have been worse and resulted in the loss of a much-valued resource in the heart of the park.
“We would encourage anyone with information to call Police Scotland.
“We are grateful to the member of the public and two members from our council housing team for their quick action in alerting the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service.”
Firefighters stepped down at about 7.35am.
