AN ICONIC building at the heart of East Lothian will be lit up this evening (Tuesday) in support of Baby Loss Awareness Week.
The Hopetoun Monument on Byres Hill, to the north of Haddington, will be illuminated in pink and blue lights from 7pm.
Peter Easterbrook, from Haddington, said: “I wanted to turn the Hopetoun Monument pink and blue to spark conversations about baby loss and give local bereaved parents and families an opportunity to talk about their babies.”
Peter is involved with local charity SANDS Lothians, who provide support for bereaved parents and families and are the only charity in Scotland who offer free and open ended specialist counselling to parents and families who have lost a baby.
He added: “Although I knew lighting up the monument was ambitious, I have been amazed by the level of encouragement once I started speaking about the idea.
“I’m really grateful to East Lothian Council who own the monument for giving us access, and to Blue Parrot Events who have been so generous with their specialist knowledge and expertise in making this a reality.”
The landmark is 95-foot stands at the top of Byres Hill which in itself is 560-foot.
A number of buildings and landmarks are turning pink and blue to mark the awareness-raising week.
