THE new operators of Musselburgh Racecourse have been announced.

At a meeting at the racecourse on Tuesday, Chester Race Company, which runs Chester Racecourse, was announced as the winner.

East Lothian Council has been overseeing the hunt for a third-party operator since an independent review of the course’s previous management committee raised concerns about its future.

Chester Racecourse is the oldest course operating in the world and was established in 1539.

Chester Race Company which runs it also owns Bangor-On-Dee racecourse and estimates that it generates over £54million in spending each year in its local economy while supporting nearly 1,000 jobs.

Recognised as a leader in its field, the company operates its Chester course 365 days a year, attracting more than 300,000 visitors to race days and non-raceday events.
