A PORT Seton man who was found guilty of punching a motorist on the head during a road rage incident has been ordered to pay the man compensation.

Robin Renton, of Inglis Avenue, assaulted Andrew Lynn by striking him to the back of the head, causing the man to fall and hit his head against his own vehicle.

Renton then repeatedly punched his victim on the head to his severe injury and permanent disfigurement when the pair clashed at a busy Edinburgh roundabout.

Renton had denied the allegations against him and stood trial on indictment over two days at Edinburgh Sheriff Court last month.

He was cleared by a jury of a charge of exiting his vehicle and engaging in a fight with Mr Lynn at Gogar Roundabout in Edinburgh on June 14 last year.

But the jury found Renton guilty by a majority decision that he had assaulted Mr Lynn by punching him to the head.

Renton returned to court last week, where Sheriff Robert Weir told him he must pay Mr Lynn £2,000 in compensation.

Renton was also ordered to carry out 240 hours of unpaid work in the community.
