FIREFIGHTERS were called out yesterday (Sunday) after reports of hay bales on fire near Glenkinchie Distillery.
The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service and Police received a call at about 1pm following reports of three hay bales alight at Huntlaw Farm, near the whisky distillery.
In a statement on Facebook, East Lothian Police said: “Although in this instance the value of damage was low, there were concerns how close the fire had been set to the nearby Glenkinchie Distillery.”
One fire crew from Dalkeith was sent to the scene and brought the fire under control, using tools to loosen the hay bales and a hose to put out the flames.
They also received assistance from local farmers, who cultivated the ground around the fire to stop it from spreading.
Police are following a positive line of enquiry with regards to identifying the culprits who set the fire.
Anyone with information in relation to this incident should call 101, quoting incident number 2415 of September 1.
Alternatively, Crimestoppers can be called anonymously on 0800 555 111.
