MUSSELBURGH Museum is closed until further notice for repairs following a leak from the ceiling.

A spokeswoman for East Lothian Council said: “Musselburgh Museum is operated by Musselburgh Museum and Heritage Group in partnership with the council.

“Unfortunately in the recent bad weather there was a leak from the ceiling.

“The leak has only affected the office and corridor area – the museum and the exhibits have not been damaged.

“As the building owners, the council is now organising repairs through our property maintenance team and we will ensure the work is carried out as quickly as possible to allow the museum to reopen as soon as possible.

“Scaffolding has been erected outside the museum and repair works will shortly commence. The museum remains closed at this time and we will keep Musselburgh Museum and Heritage Group updated on this process and the timetable for the completion of works to enable them to re-open.”

She added that there was no immediate impact on future exhibition plans.

The museum on High Street, which is run by volunteers, recently hosted an exhibition about the Musselburgh Festival.

This finished on August 8 and artefacts are being returned to lenders.

Prior to that, a display about Musselburgh Athletic Football Club through the years was also enjoyed by visitors.
