A PRESTONPANS man will have to pay a fine after admitting a violent struggle with police officers.

John Ritchie, of Salt Preston Place, shouted and swore at officers when they arrived at his home on an unconnected matter.

Ritchie shouted threats of violence and struggled with the police when they attempted to arrest him on September 8 last year.

The 42-year-old then repeatedly struck his head against the inside of the police vehicle following his arrest.

Ritchie appeared in the dock at Edinburgh Sheriff Court the following day and was released on bail on September 10 and told to return to court on October 23.

But Ritchie failed to show up for the court date, leading to a non-appearance warrant being granted.

When he did appear in court, Sheriff McRitchie handed out a £250 fine as a punishment.

The sheriff admonished Ritchie on the charge of failing to appear at court.

Ritchie admitted behaving in a threatening or abusive manner at Salt Pans Place, Prestonpans, on September 8 last year. He also pleaded guilty to failing to appear in court on October 23 last year.
