LUGGAGE and debris fell off the back of a lorry and, along with pedestrians, caused disruption on the A1 on Monday afternoon.

At about 3.50pm, Traffic Scotland posted an alert on Twitter warning drivers of the incident, which took place on the westbound carriageway near Wallyford.

The update stated that there were “reports of debris, luggage and pedestrians on the road causing heavy traffic”, urging people to take care when approaching the area.

A spokesman for Police Scotland said: “We were made aware at 3.47pm to reports on the A1 northbound towards Edinburgh at Wallyford to debris on the road.

“The debris came from a goods vehicle who then went on to recover the items. There was no need for police involvement.”

Traffic Scotland said the road was confirmed as clear at 4.02pm.
