NORTH Berwick in Bloom volunteers have paid tribute to golf star Catriona Matthew in this year’s carpet bed display in the Lodge Grounds.

The carpet bed changes every year and commemorates an organisation or event that is important in the local community.

The group wanted to highlight Catriona’s achievement in being selected as the Team Europe captain at this year’s Solheim Cup at Gleneagles in September.

Many months of hard work and planning, including deciding the design and layout and purchasing the plants, took place before East Lothian Council gardeners started planting.

Julie Slocombe, of North Berwick in Bloom, said: “This year’s display is not just about an event but an achievement, Catriona’s achievement, so it’s something a bit more special and we really wanted to commemorate that.

“Not only that it’s a big thing for women’s sport and women’s golf as well.”

Catriona, of North Berwick, is very pleased with the finished result.

“She was delighted her hometown was doing this for her,” said Julie, “She is a delightful lady and so professional. She said the carpet bed is looking wonderful.”
