AMERICAN R&B legend Alexander O'Neal swept the Fringe by the Sea audience off their feet last night as he performed classic hits such as Criticize and Fake.

In a packed Simpson and Marwick Spiegeltent at North Berwick harbour, a relaxed O'Neal, 65, showed he had lost none of his style and showmanship -  and none of his vocal talents - as he and his band had almost everyone up dancing.

And in his finale, he invited anyone who wanted to to join him on the stage - and there were no shortage of takers who gave the US music legend plenty of hugs and vocal backing!

Fringe by the Sea continues today and throughout the week.

Today (Monday) sees David Attenborough cameraman and wildlife enthusiast Doug Allan give his talk ‘Natural Born Thrillers’ at the Simpson and Marwick Spiegeltent at 2pm where he discusses his adventurous career.

Sir Geoff Palmer, famed human rights activist and Heriot-Watt University lecturer in Edinburgh, is presenting a talk on Historical Connections at North Berwick Library today at noon where he will look at the West Indies, Scotland and the slave trade.

Today will also see a talk on the rewilding of Scotland with Peter Cairns (7.30pm);  a lively comic evening with Scotland’s Janey Godley (5.30pm), and Quattro MacJazz (6pm).

Tomorrow (Tuesday) offers the chance to relax with local Bernadette Petrie as she runs a guided meditation (11am); a chance to get inspired by feminist, activist and author Sara Sheridan (12.30pm): and the opportunity to put your dancing shoes on as award-winning folk band Old Blind Dogs take to the stage (7pm).

Wednesday is another day for relaxation as the Barefoot Sanctuary runs mind, body and soul drop in sessions throughout the morning, and chi Kung classes with Mark Travers.

Famed crime author Val McDermid joins Sir Menzies Campbell for a lunchtime conversation at midday in the Simpson and Marwick Spiegeltent, and festival favourites Bombskare light up the stage in the evening with their energetic music (9.30pm).

All of this and more is on offer across North Berwick over the next six days.
