POLICE, Coastguards and the RNLI were called into action last night in the search for a person person in the North Berwick area.

North Berwick Coastguard, Dunbar Coastguard, Fisherrow Coastguard, South Queensferry Coastguard, Dunbar RNLI lifeboats and North Berwick RNLI were all mobilised at about 6pm on Saturday.

North Berwick Coastguard Rescue Team said on Facebook: "Areas to search were identified and assistance from North Berwick RNLI lifeboat and Dunbar RNLI lifeboats was requested for shoreline locations.

"Coastguard rescue teams located vital items which lead to a focused search area being identified inland.

"The missing person was thereafter located safe and well by Coastguard rescue officers and passed to the care of police.

This was a prime example of multi-agency working where our specialist search training was utilised and incident working protocols worked well for a positive outcome."

Police confirmed  earlier that missing Edinburgh man Nigel Terry, 54, who had last been seen in North Berwick on Friday afternoon, had been "traced safe and well".

If you see someone in difficulty or something you are concerned about on the shoreline, beaches, cliffs, mud or water, call 999 immediately and ask for the Coastguard.
