SWIMMERS are being encouraged to make a splash after a stunning makeover of Haddington’s swimming pool.

Work got under way at the pool and health suite within the town’s Aubigny Sports Centre in April and – after a delay – the pool is due to re-open on Monday.

Essential maintenance and interior décor works have been carried out at the sports centre, off Mill Wynd, over several weeks.

During the work, the two pools were drained, with a new light, bright ceiling covering the outdated wood cladding.

New lighting has also been installed while the locker rooms have also been given a facelift and tiles have been given a thorough clean.

The new-look pool was revealed to enjoyleisure members and politicians on Friday afternoon.

The facility is one of East Lothian’s original sports centres and originally opened its doors as Haddington Swimming Pool in September 1974.

The much-loved site consists of a four-lane swimming pool and East Lothian’s only dedicated infant pool.

Before the temporary closure, the facility welcomed about 1,400 bathers to the pool each week for swimming lessons, AquaFit classes, swimming club training, school and public use.
