A NIGHT out in a North Berwick pub ended badly for one local man when he was arrested after he was refused drink.

Robert Hughes had been enjoying the night at the town’s The Auld Hoose, on Forth Street, when his behaviour turned unruly.

Patrons complained to bar staff about 39-year-old Hughes’ conduct and he soon became “very angry and began shouting and swearing”.

Hughes, of the town’s St Andrew Street, told a staff member that he would “kick the **** out of him” if he continued to refuse him alcohol.

Staff attempted to calm Hughes down but he continued to threaten staff at about 8.30pm on December 29 last year. They were then forced to call in the police to deal with unemployed Hughes’ conduct.

Hughes admitted behaving in a threatening or abusive manner at the pub on December 29 last year at Edinburgh Sheriff Court last Wednesday.

Solicitor Stephanie Clinkscale said Hughes had been “particularly drunk” but that he had taken himself outside to wait for the police.

Sheriff Pamela Bowman described Hughes as “a nuisance” and fined him £400.
