NORTH Berwick has been chosen as the location for East Lothian’s first dedicated outdoor water refill tap.

Scottish Water is submitting a planning application to install the tap on Quality Street, not far from the North Berwick Fry.

It is hoped the tap will be ready for use in the autumn.

Scottish Water has installed 10 refill taps across the country in a bid to encourage people to carry reusable bottles and top up with healthy, free tap water.

The aim is to install one of these taps in every council area.

Scott Fraser, communities manager at Scottish Water, said: “North Berwick is a buzzing, beautiful seaside town and we think this makes it an ideal spot for one of our top-up taps.”

The taps are connected to the mains water supply and digitally track how much water is used.
