RESIDENTS are being warned to be on the alert after a scam phone call was made by someone claiming to be from East Lothian Council.
Yesterday (Thursday), a member of the public in Dunbar received a call from someone claiming to be from the council asking for access to their home to check for asbestos.
The homeowner was suspicious and did not agree to the request.
Police were contacted and inquiries with East Lothian Council confirmed that this was not a legitimate call.
Anyone who receives any similar call should also refuse to allow entry to their home, hang up and contact police on 101.
