A SECTION of the A1 will be closed for six nights while roadworks take place, while the road will be down to one lane during the day as well.

The westbound (northbound) carriageway of the A1 between Abbotsview Junction and Oaktree Junction, both at Haddington, will shut each night between next Tuesday (June 25) and Monday, July 1.

The closure will be in force between 8pm and 6am each night as part of a £305,000 road maintenance scheme.

Meanwhile, from next Wednesday (June 26), between 6am and 8pm, the westbound carriageway between the two junctions will be one lane only to allow the surfacing material to cool.

A signed diversion route will be in place during the overnight closures.

Westbound traffic will be instructed to exit via the Abbotsview off-slip road and, at the roundabout, traffic will take the second exit onto the A199.

Traffic will be directed to proceed on this route towards the roundabout at Oaktree Junction, where it will take the third exit to rejoin the A1 westbound via the on-slip road.

Amey, which is responsible for the A1, said the work would benefit more than 4,000 vehicles using this section of the A1 each day by improving the condition of the carriageway and reducing the need for more extensive maintenance in the future.

The work has been planned in consultation with Transport Scotland, Traffic Scotland, emergency services, and East Lothian Council.
