THE granddaughter of a world-famous composer is to stand trial charged with killing a pensioner in a road crash in East Lothian.
Caroline Bourgois Emmet is accused of causing the death of Elizabeth Anne Henderson, 83, by dangerous driving in July 2017.
The 54-year-old – who lives in Paris – is the relative of White Christmas lyricist Irving Berlin.
Prosecutors state that the incident occurred on the A198 west of Archerfield.
Ms Emmet is alleged to have driven on to the wrong side of the road and into the path of a car driven by William Henderson.
A number of people in the vehicles are said to have been hurt.
It is stated that Ms Henderson was so severely injured that she died at the Royal Infirmary in Edinburgh two days after the incident.
Ms Emmet’s QC, Ian Duguid, offered to plead guilty to the reduced allegation of causing death by careless driving but the plea was rejected by prosecutors during a short hearing at the High Court in Glasgow.
She will now stand trial in September in Edinburgh, with the case expected to be heard over three days.
Ms Emmet’s bail was continued.
