A BID to demolish a village’s gym to make way for housing has been shelved.

Plans to demolish the gym, on Gullane’s Hall Crescent, were revealed in March.

A planning application outlined that Allan Anderson, who has owned the gym for more than 15 years, was considering closing the business because it had become “economically unviable”.

However, East Lothian Council has now confirmed that those plans have been withdrawn.

Currently, it is unclear if revised plans will be submitted or if the gym has been given a reprieve.

Councillor Jeremy Findlay, who lives in the village, said: “I hope in light of the fact the application has been withdrawn that the gym can continue as it is at the moment.

“Hopefully, people in the village will get behind the gym and use it more so it can survive as an ongoing business.”
