A GOLFER was surprised at Royal Musselburgh Golf Club when instead of finding a wayward golf ball he instead stumbled across a guinea pig!

Engineer William Waddell, 42, was playing in the Lady Captain’s Day at the club in Prestonpans on April 27 when his friend hit a wayward ball on the ninth hole.

Donna, William’s wife, said: “He was looking for his friend’s ball when he saw something moving in the grass – he took a closer look and saw it was a guinea pig!

“He picked it up and handed it in to the pro shop.”

The family put pictures of the furry find on Facebook and, in no time at all, a young girl came forward with her dad, another club member, to take care of it until the owner could be found.

Donna added: “The dad happened to be an expert on guinea pigs, judging and showing them up and down the country, so they were the perfect people to take care of it really.

“We’ve all had loads of messages on social media from people offering to give it a home, so whatever happens, I’m sure it’ll be loved.”

William and Donna live in Duns with their two children Kiera, 17, and Jaydon, 14.

Donna added: “We’re really keen to find out what will happen to the wee thing. I hope everything works out for it.”
