AN APPEAL has been made for people to be vigilant after a spate of vandalism incidents at Levenhall Links bird reserve over the past few months.
Incidents have included damage to bird hides and trees, smashed bottles, rubbish strewn over the bird reserve and disturbance to wildlife. Offensive graffiti was also painted onto the interpretation board and within the hides. The estimated damage so far amounts to about £1,500.
Additional patrols will be carried out by community wardens and police.
A spokesperson for East Lothian Council said: “Unfortunately, there have been a number of incidents of vandalism at Levenhall Links bird reserve over the past few months.
“The bird reserve plays a crucial role in supporting vulnerable wetland birds in the Firth of Forth.
“We’d be grateful if anyone who witnesses such incidents contacts the police on 101 or the council’s Safer Communities Team, 01620 829902.
