TRIBUTES have poured in following the tragic death of a young man in a motorbike crash on Saturday.

Rhys Campbell, 21, of Elphinstone, sustained serious injuries when his bike was involved in a 2.20pm collision with a Volkswagen Golf car on the B1348 coast road, just east of Seton Sands Holiday Village, near Seton Dean.

He sadly died en route to the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh.

A sea of flowers has been placed at the scene of the accident, with mourners leaving touching tributes.

One read: “Fly high gorgeous, love you so much. Ride like the wind. Love, your wee brother Lewis and Kirsty.”

Other messages left included: “Until we meet again buddy, keep my seat warm”.

And “Rhys, taken so young, you will always be remembered. A loving young man who loved life.”

A fundraising page has been set up on Facebook in honour of the young man. The ‘Rhys Campbell taken too soon’ page gives people a chance to donate money for his family in the hope of raising £1,500.

By yesterday afternoon (Wednesday), nearly £1,400 had been raised.

A number of comments from those who knew Rhys were also left on the page, such as “so sad, so young” and “RIP Rhys, ride with the angels”.

Inquiries into the crash are ongoing and anyone with information is asked to contact police.

Sergeant Fraser Wood of Police Scotland said: “Our thoughts and sympathies are with his family at this time.

“We are still working to establish the full circumstances of this tragic incident, and other motorists who were on the road and witnessed what happened are urged to contact police immediately.

“Likewise, anyone with relevant dash-cam footage or who has any other information should also get in touch.”

Those with information can contact the road policing unit in Dalkeith via 101 and quote incident number 2533 of April 20.
