THE owner of the Bronx Boxing Gym in Tranent has set up a JustGiving page to raise money for the family of murdered T2 Trainspotting actor Bradley Welsh.

Alex Brown, from Musselburgh, is hoping to raise £10,000 for the grieving family of the boxing coach and charity fundraiser, who was shot outside his home in the west end of Edinburgh on Wednesday evening.

Alex, 54, who owns Ideal Flooring Solutions in Musselburgh, told the Courier: “I knew Brad very well for about 30 years. We went to the same boxing gym.

"He was such a genuine guy, very charitable and worked hard to keep kids off the street and teach them respect and discipline through boxing.

“I laid flowers outside his gym near Holyrood, and last night had a small memorial there for him.

“I feel Edinburgh has lost a good son.”

Bradley Welsh was famous locally for his charity work, raising hundreds of thousands of pounds over the years for various children’s charities in the Edinburgh area.

Alex added: “I’m still pretty cut up about what’s happened. One of the saddest things are all the children in the future who didn’t get to meet him or be trained by him and feel that benefit.

“The money from the crowdfunder will go to his family to ease their financial pressure at this hard time.”

More than £1,000 has already been raised on the JustGiving page, with messages on the page paying emotional tributes to the star’s tragic death.

One person wrote: "You did so much for charity Brad, I never knew you well but it was a pleasure to meet you. I hope people realise what you gave to the young people from Edinburgh."
