NORTH Berwick Environment Trust has relaunched with a new chairperson, a new constitution, and a new name.

Now called North Berwick Environment and Heritage Trust, the group will take on a wider range of projects across the town.

David Kellock, former chair, said: “Over recent years the town’s heritage has become more central to the concerns of residents.

“The trust has taken on responsibility for the Kirk Ports Group, seeking to raise money to conserve and interpret old St Andrew’s Kirk and restore its iconic bell-shaped tower roof.  We’ve also attracted support and interest from people working actively with what’s current in the town including Sustaining North Berwick and the ‘pARTicipate’ arts group. Most recently, the Friends of the Lodge, who have agreed to dissolve, have asked us to accept their remaining assets. The trust intends that these assets will continue to support the Lodge Grounds as a space for the community to enjoy.”

Hilary Smith has been named the new chair of the trust and is “delighted to be taking on this role with the enthusiasm that David has called for”.

Membership of the trust is open to all and costs £5 per year. Email environmenttrustnb@gmail.com
