MOTORISTS are being warned they could face lengthy delays ahead of a proposed large development near Queen Margaret University.

East Lothian Council’s planning committee meets today (Tuesday), when it will look at two proposals for land surrounding the campus, which sits between Musselburgh and the A1.

Councillor Norman Hampshire highlighted the proposals at Dunbar Community Council’s meeting on Monday, warning that drivers could expect tailbacks while works were taking place to create a new junction at the university.

The junction, which would be diamond-shaped, would allow direct access to the university to motorists heading both to and from the Capital.

Mr Hampshire, who chairs the planning committee, said the roadworks were likely to take “no more than 12 months”.

The first set of proposals are for a mixed use development including potentially 1,500 homes, as well as space for employment use, community facilities and possibly a school.

Meanwhile, the second set of proposals looks at plans for more than 470 new homes.
