A MEMBER of Dunbar’s RNLI crew is one of the faces of a new campaign launched by an international clothing giant.

Rebecca ‘Becs’ Miller was selected for the new promotional campaign to showcase the charity’s partnership with Helly Hansen – the supplier of the RNLI’s new all-weather lifeboat kit.

A short promotional video is available on the clothing company’s website, which highlights what RNLI volunteers go through when they are called out on a rescue operation.

‘Heroes of the Unpredictable’ features French sailor Thomas Colville, the first person in history to sail a multihull around the world single-handedly in less than 50 days; Fred-Arne Danielson, a volunteer team leader of the Norwegian People’s Aid within the Arctic Circle; and Becs, who has been a part of the voluntary RNLI crew for five years.

She told the Courier: “The film crew got in touch and came up and did a recce of the area, and came up and filmed us for a week.

“For them, they just thought it was amazing to see what we do on the boat and experience being out on the water.

“I think what was important to me was a couple of things.

“I wanted to be able to show how we work as a team and the importance of teamwork – also, to showcase Dunbar, which I think the film does very well.”

Helly Hansen, the global technical sailing brand founded in Norway in 1877, has committed to supporting the RNLI for the next five years through a variety of life-saving activities.

These include delivering drowning prevention messages to their customers, generating income, supporting fundraising and safety campaigns, product innovation and supplying the best kit to the RNLI’s lifesavers.

Supplying the RNLI with new all-weather lifeboat crew kit, Helly Hansen has worked with the lifesaving charity to ensure the professional-grade gear will meet the demanding needs of the RNLI’s volunteer lifeboat crews.

The new clothing went into service in September 2018, when Becs was first approached about appearing in the promotional campaign.

The four-minute video was created showing Becs, who has lived in the town for a decade, and the RNLI crew battling the elements off Dunbar’s coast.

However, the 47-year-old has no plans to continue modelling by swapping the coastline for the catwalks of Milan, Paris or Tokyo.

She said: “I know my place!

“I think it is quite funny and that is the whole point – it is not about looking glamorous and it certainly does not look glamorous! The pager goes off and you don’t have time to put on make-up.

“You go out to save lives.”
