An “INSPIRATIONAL and uplifting” talk by rugby legend Doddie Weir raised £1,000 for his charity at North Berwick High School last Wednesday.

During the talk, Doddie discussed his lengthy career, which included 61 caps for Scotland, as well as being diagnosed with motor neurone disease (MND) two years ago.

Joining the 48-year-old on stage was his ghost writer Stewart Weir, a well-known sports journalist, who discussed his relationship with Doddie and what it was like to write with him.

Lauren Rodger, headteacher at North Berwick High School, said: “It was such a pleasure to welcome Doddie to NBHS, along with Stewart Weir, the co-author of his autobiography. They shared stories, insights and many laughs with a very appreciative audience.

“I was so proud of our S6 pupils, Holly Edwards and Fraser Gilvray, who put questions to our guests – as well as being unfazed by Doddie’s teasing! Euan Orr, guidance teacher, proved to be a natural at chairing the event.

“I’m very grateful to our wonderful PTA for organising what was a truly inspirational and uplifting evening.”

The sell-out event was held by NBHS and Black and White Publishing, and raised £1,000 for the My Name’5 Doddie Foundation.
